The Maruti Baleno was the third best selling car in the Indian market in January 2018, with 17,770 units being dispatched to dealers. The only cars ahead of it were the Dzire in the first place and the Alto in the second. Even the next two spots were occupied by Maruti with the Swift in fourth and the WagonR in fifth. The Baleno’s closest competitor, the Hyundai Elite i20, was in the eight spot, recording 9,650 units.
The Baleno is available with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel engine. Mated to both is a 5-speed manual transmission with the petrol getting the option for a CVT automatic. Prices for the Baleno start from Rs 5.3 lakh for the Sigma petrol and go up to Rs 8.49 for the Alpha diesel.
